Ailia Therapy
Hot Stone Massage

This detoxifying and deeply relaxing treatment is the perfect way to unwind. Natural basalt stones are warmed and used in combination with hand techniques for deep tissue massage. The warmth from the stones has a calming, sedative effect, encouraging the release of endorphins for that feel good factor.

The optional use of cool marble stones further enhances the treatment by revitalising and refreshing the body. Combining hot and cold has a balancing effect, boosting the circulation and stimulating the immune system.

Background

Mary Nelson introduced LaStone Therapy to the United States in 1989. Hot Stone treatments are now practised across the World and there are many variations on the original LaStone methods.

The use of hot stones for therapy is based on native American traditions. They were used for menstrual pain and for keeping warm at night around the fire. In the East they have been used to slow digestion for fasting and in the Caribbean for treating injuries. In Scandinavia, they are used in hydrotherapy to heat the sauna where one sits to absorb the heat before taking a cold shower.
